Welcome
This beautiful stone building,
built circa 1860 has been renovated into a store featuring five hundred frozen
food items and country décor for every room of your home or cottage. The
building is situated along the Moira River at the northern section of Tweed, Ontario.
The building
operated as a cheese factory until the early 1900's, at which time
it closed down and remained vacant until 1960 when the south portion
was made into living quarters. The living quarters were utilized
by various families and individuals until 1998, at which time the
building became vacant until major renovations commenced in February
2004 to create the store that you see today.
The
building is a historic site with exterior stonework that has never been touched
and interior beams that were installed when the building was first built in the
late 1800's. The woodwork covering the walls, serving as wainscoting, was removed
from the ceiling and walls in the original structure; planed, sanded, stained
and reinstated on the walls. The old wheel extending from the beams was at one
time attached to the south end of the building utilized to pull cans up to the
factory by rope and pulley method.
The
store has 14 freezers on-site full of frozen foods from fingerfoods to total meal
preparation. The majority of the products are grown and marketed in Ontario and
come to the store in bulk form, at which time they are reduced, bagged, weighed
and priced for sale to the public. Upon request, the frozen product can be bagged
to any size to meet individual requirements. The dry food consists of jams, relishes,
oils, tapenades (sugar-free toppings), marinades, salsa, dry dips and drink mixes.
The jam and relishes come to the store from a local business and also the Mennonites
in western Ontario. The remainder of the dry goods are from various locations
throughout Ontario.
The
décor is a mixture of old- fashioned country and upcountry
creations by local furniture builders. Gift ideas range from candles,
dishware, painted signs, pillows, table runners, hanging floral
baskets and wreaths to gift baskets prepared on site.
Come and visit
our store and see for yourself the excellent food and gift products
in the beautiful restored building along the Moira River.
